Welcome to James Society!
Hi! My name is Brit - and along with my husband Ben - we are the owners of James Society!
We started out in 2011 as Bad James Vintage and are naturally growing into handmade items as well. While I did not grow up sewing, I have always had a love for vintage clothes (ok, clothes in general) and this seems like the next organic step.
The handmade process is something that has absolutely grown on me. I have known Ben for over a decade now and when we "re-met" (as I like to call it) I quickly learned his family was one of making and very little buying. I found it fascinating that for holidays something was almost always made instead of bought.
We ran into Etsy together soon after we got married as a source of downsizing my vintage collection. And it just made sense. Man, what a journey it has become!
I started - what I didn't even realize - was a dream to run my own business. I had always enjoyed working for other people and by bypassing formal education that was simply the way I learned. I worked very hands on with some fantastic designers and boutique owners in the Los Angeles area for the start of my early twenties.
Even so, I would vividly recall my father setting the example of doing what you love - or simply searching a lifetime for it.
He was (still is) never afraid to take a professional turn or leap.
I had no idea that stumbling upon Etsy would completely turn my world upside down and I wouldn't have it any other way!
I am very fortunate to get to work with Ben on our many projects because - unlike me - his work regimen and way of thinking is very strategic and well thought out. Luckily that balances my scattered ways and when I need help engineering something, he is there!
Everyday is a learning experience and my goal is to keep our customers over the moon to come back. We are constantly changing, evolving and discovering new outlets to pour our creative souls into.
I have naturally been prone to creative projects (ask my mom! my VERY supportive mom!)
and Etsy is there to allow us to do so in the most professional of ways.
We have just brought upon our new line : bone + mini
It is based on simple silhouettes that are for everyday wear and are conceptually seasonless.
There will be handmade clothing on James Society as well and I do not believe our vintage collection is going anywhere! It is actually my very inspiration of why I started creating on my own. Vintage is spectacularly unique and a lot of the pieces I fall so in love with seem to be handmade in the 70's. I believe that was a very strong era of handmade fashions.
Gotta love handmade!
Gotta love Etsy!
We are so grateful to all of those that have been on this journey with us. When I shoot for "WOW" - I think of you.
& thanks so much for taking a peek into our shop!
xx - Brit and Ben

To eat and to drink yeah
And find a place to stay
That's not far off the main way"
